![]() ![]() The number of cores in computers and mobile devices continues to rise. Artificial intelligence, especially machine learning, has become ubiquitous in general and mobile applications. Smartphone cameras take bigger and better pictures. Geekbench 6 is available for download today for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux.Ī lot has changed in the tech world in the past three years. It's possible that Apple has moved to 1x512GB SSD for the base Mac Studio, but a teardown and testing will be needed to confirm if that's the case and what the performance hit would be vs a 2x512 1TB drive.Geekbench 6, the latest version of the best cross-platform benchmark, has arrived and is loaded with new and improved workloads to measure the performance of your CPUs and GPUs. I'd be curious to read if any such testing has been done. (The 1TB drives and aboveI maintained multi-chip configurations.) I read that the 1x512, too, was slower than the previous 2x256 configuration, although there doesn't seem to be any of the usual Apple-gate outcries about this or class action lawsuits, which leads me to think it has no impact on real world tasks that one would do with a base model MBP. Then Apple did the same thing with the base model of the 14" M2 Macbook Pro-instead of a 2x256 configuration, it moved to 1x512. it impacted performance if you used it for tasks that no one buying a base M2 MBA would use it to do. ![]() With the intro of the M2 MBA, it shifted the base model to a 1x configuration of 1x256GB, which was deemed to be slower and negatively impact performance. ![]() ![]() Apple had been using a 2x configuration for its laptop SSDs. This will require teardown and testing to confirm. Hi, concerning the SSD upgrade necessity- how is the speed of the drive in the unit you’ve been reviewed (and what’s the drive capacity in it)? Heard rumors that base mode, equipped with 512 gb is slower than upgraded one. ![]()
